Mental health and behavior are closely connected to how a young person thinks, feels, learns, reacts to stress, builds relationships, and makes decisions. When a young person is struggling emotionally or behaviorally, the effects can reach many parts of everyday life.
Stress, anxiety, low mood, anger, or difficulty focusing can affect attendance, motivation, grades, job performance, and future planning.
Emotional and behavioral challenges can make communication, trust, friendships, family relationships, and conflict resolution more difficult.
Young people may struggle with self-esteem, belonging, hopelessness, or feeling misunderstood. Positive support can help them recognize strengths and build confidence.
Unmanaged stress or strong emotions can contribute to impulsive choices, withdrawal, aggression, risky behavior, or difficulty following expectations.
Mental wellness can affect sleep, energy, appetite, concentration, activity levels, and the ability to maintain healthy routines.
Early support can help young people strengthen coping skills, resilience, communication, problem-solving, and the ability to handle future challenges.
Breaking Through Barriers works with community partners and helps youth and families connect with additional mental health, behavioral health, and recovery resources when more specialized support is needed.
We can help families connect with Children’s Therapeutic Services and Supports (CTSS) providers that may offer services such as psychotherapy, skills training, crisis assistance, family support, and other eligible behavioral health services.
When a young person needs clinical support, we can help connect families with qualified mental health professionals and community organizations for assessment, therapy, counseling, or other appropriate services.
We can also help youth, young adults, and families identify community-based substance-use, prevention, treatment, recovery, and peer-support resources when those services are needed.
